Acclaimed director Cary Fukunaga, known for True Detective, No Time to Die and other high-profile projects, has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple young female actors.

Per The Wrap, three women have posted online alleging aggressive or predatory sexual advances perpetrated by Fukunaga. Actor Rachelle Vinberg claimed the director pressured her into a romantic relationship not long after her 18th birthday, Fukunaga being more than 20 years her senior. Twin actors Hannah and Cailin Loesch later described incidents where Fukunaga allegedly pursued both sisters simultaneously. Hannah and Cailin, who starred in Fukunaga's Maniac for Netflix, said that during their early 20s, Fukunaga tried at least twice to talk them into having a threesome with him.

The allegations first arose due to an Instagram story Fukunaga posted during the week of May 1. In response to the possibility of abortion rights in the United States being revoked, Fukunaga posted a message saying, "Meanwhile in America the supreme court is about to push us one step closer to war with ourselves by legitimatizing a war against women's rights." Vinberg then responded with a post of her own, writing, "It pisses me off cause he literally doesn't care about women. He only traumatizes them. I've spoken to many girls. Fuck you Cary."

In a series of subsequent posts, Vinberg detailed her relationship with Fukunaga and his alleged inappropriate behavior toward her. Vinberg, now 23, said she met the director five years ago while working on a Samsung commercial together and subsequently "spent many years scared of him." The actor, who also claimed she entered therapy after the relationship ended and was diagnosed with PTSD, said Fukunaga didn't want others to know they were romantically involved. "One thing that was really weird about him was he would tell me to pretend that I was his cousin or niece or sister in front of other people like he’d want me to lie about who I was," she said.

After Vinberg came forward, Hannah and Cailin Loesch said they were emboldened to reveal their own experiences with Fukunaga. In a lengthy Twitter post, the twins described a volatile, flirty friendship with Fukunaga wherein he allegedly engaged in manipulative behavior and tried to pursue the sisters at the same time. "Back at home, we all slipped into the family’s hot tub, where he asked us if we were virgins, and what our thoughts on threesomes are," the sisters wrote, recalling an instance when Fukunaga visited them at their parents' home. "When we told him that we would never participate in one, he reminded us that they 'do them in pornos all the time,' and even suggested incest is fine 'if all parties are okay with it.'"

Hannah and Cailin also recalled attending a nightclub with Fukunaga and his friends. "...We both wound up blacked out in the bathroom, for the first time in our lives," the actors wrote. "A night out with our director, who we had enormous respect for, ended with us both pressed against Cary’s body on the dance floor, lapsing in and out of our lucid states, occasionally falling to the floor in a haze ... we never got close to that inebriated before, or since, that night."

Vinberg, for her part, explained why she decided to come forward with her story. "I decided to kind of expose him is [sic] because I feel like I'm supposed to represent women and I would never be able to live with myself," she said. "This guy was roaming, free doing this."
