Created by Ian Fleming, James Bond debuted in the 1953 novel Casino Royale. The spy proved a massive hit and Fleming wrote twelve novels featuring the character. Following Fleming's passing in 1964, various other writers went on to pen Bond's adventures, including Kingsley Amis/Robert Markham and Raymond Benson. Since his debut, Bond has appeared in a number of different comics, video games and, of course, films.

The first movie featuring James Bond was 1962's Dr. No, which starred Sean Connery as 007. Connery played the spy in several films until, following 1967's You Only Live Twice, he was replaced by George Lazenby. Since then, a number of different actors have taken on the role of Bond and the franchise currently boasts 25 films, making it one of the longest running film franchises ever.

The most recent iteration of the franchise, which features Daniel Craig as 007, started in 2006 with Casino Royale. That movie served as a reboot of the series and introduced a darker, rougher tone to the franchise. Craig later reprised his role for 2008's Quantum of Solace, 2012's Skyfall and 2015's Spectre. No Time to Die will be Craig's final turn as Bond. It's not currently known what the franchise has planned for Bond following Craig's departure.

Currently, No Time to Die holds an 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the third-highest reviewed Bond film starring Craig. As of writing, No Time to Die has grossed more than $121 million worldwide against a budget of between $250 and $301 million, and the movie has not yet released in the United States.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time to Die releases domestically on Oct. 8.
