The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for "No Escape," the upcoming action thriller from director John Erick Dowdle ("Devil," "Quarantine").

While former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan ("The November Man") doesn't seem out of place in such a film -- after all, he seems to be following the late-career path forged by Liam Neeson -- Owen Wilson may be an unexpected choice to play a businessman who moves his family to Southeast Asia just in time for a bloody political uprising. In any case, it's been a long time since we've seen him in an action role.

Judging from the trailer, "No Escape" veers sharply from "action thriller" into "Purge"-like horror territory as rebels overrun their hotel, with (possibly) only Brosnan standing between Wilson, Lake Bell and certain death.

"No Escape" opens Sept. 2.
