The contents of the trailer, which debuted during Nintendo's last Direct Showcase, walks fans through what the Expansion Pass includes. It highlights the addition of Nintendo 64 games, Sega Genesis games and access to the upcoming Happy Home Paradise DLC pack for Animal Crossing New Horizons. The previous holder of the unwanted record was the E3 2015 trailer for Metroid Prime: Federation Forces, which managed to rack up 11,000 likes and 96,000 dislikes.

Many of the comments on the video are criticizing Nintendo's implementation of the Expansion Pack. Fans are expressing frustration with the substantial price hike from $19,99 USD a year to $49,99 USD a year for the addition of a handful of classic titles. Many are simply quoting deceased Nintendo president Satoru Iwata by writing, "I don’t think it’s reasonable to make someone pay for a game and then prepare a network connection and charge a monthly fee." Iwata made the comment in 2003 when speaking on how Nintendo plans on implementing online features into its games.

The frustration towards the Expansion Pack has been further exacerbated by the generally sloppy porting of the promised N64 games. Users have experienced several significant bugs and performance issues in games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TimeSuper Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. Beyond the poor technical adaptions for the Nintendo Switch platform, certain games are missing entire features; Players can't save ghost data in Mario Kart 64 as the game still requires a Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak which is neither available for nor compatible with the Switch.

Nintendo has yet to issue a statement on the Switch Online Expansion Pack but will likely attempt to fix the state of many games through subsequent patches. A notable dataminer recently uncovered files within the Nintendo 64 app which indicates that more classics will eventually be added to the system, including The Legend of Zelda: Majora's MaskSuper Smash Bros., several Mario Party games. A total of at least 38 games are expected to eventually make their way to the Nintendo Switch.
