The Nintendo Switch will reportedly receive an upgrade next year to compete with Sony's and Microsoft's upcoming consoles.

According to an anonymous source who spoke with Bloomberg, the upgrade will include more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics, alongside a veritable library of third-party games. This set of games will target players of all kinds, from casual to hardcore. The update is meant to make the Switch stand out in the console market, particularly with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X arriving this holiday season.

"With Nintendo Switch about to begin its fourth year, the situation does feel a little different from the home consoles we’ve offered in the past," Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said in January. "In terms of hardware, I think we will be able to consider a variety of ways to expand in the future."

The Switch has seen a surge in popularity thanks to the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic meaning more people are home. Meanwhile, Nintendo recently held a presentation at August Indie World where it revealed several indie games that will be ported to the Switch.
