To say that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans aren't excited about the upcoming Michael Bay-produced film, now called Ninja Turtles, is like suggesting Shredder probably shouldn't jump in your favorite bounce house.

From changing the name to saying that, instead of being mutated animals, the Turtles are actually extra-dimensional aliens, the controversial producer has raised the ire of fans, even though Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Wrath of the Titans) is directing. Turtle devotee got a bit of a reprieve when Paramount Pictures put the production on hold and moved the film's release from 2013 to 2014. However, that delay seems to be coming to an end.

Production Weekly tweeted the following: "Principle photography on TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, is scheduled to begin this April in New York."

In March, Bay explained that Paramount shortened the title of the film to simply Ninja Turtles and assured fan that Liebesman wouldn't let them down. Since then an apparently old script made the rounds and got slammed online by just about everyone who read it, including TMNT co-creator Peter Laird. Just a month before that, fellow co-creator Kevin Eastman claimed that the script -- presumably a more current one -- would make for the best Ninja Turtles film of all time.

So, which will it be? Will the film be the best or worst ever? Only time, and the film's scheduled May 16, 2014 release date, will tell.
