A new Batgirl costume will debut in upcoming issues of Nightwing, series artist Bruno Redondo revealed on Twitter.According to Redondo, Barbara Gordon will don her new Batgirl suit in Nightwing as part of the the upcoming "Fear State" event. The new design combines aspects of Barbara's previous costumes. Upon first glance, it resembles the purple leather jacket and yellow bat symbol she wore during her time as the "Batgirl of Burnside."RELATED: Bitewing Gets Her First Costume on Nightwing #78's Third Printing Cover

Redondo's design has a noticeably more tactical variation on the homemade Burnside suit, however, with a back reinforcement mechanism and a cape that can turn into wings via electric charge -- similar to Batman's outfit in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. Most notably, Barbara will be sporting the trademark Bat Family white eyes while wearing her new mask, and Redondo wrote in his notes that the eyes allow him to "play with a funny/cartoon expression, same as Nightwing."

Redondo also revealed a three-part cover triptych for the upcoming Nightwing issues where Barbara will step into the new costume. These issues will coincide with "Fear State," a horror-themed event that begins in August and spills into multiple books throughout the Batman line. The event focuses on Scarecrow slowly manipulating Gotham City like a puppet master and turning Batman's home into a police state.

Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown, who both served as Batgirl in DC's pre-New 52 continuity, can be seen in the right corner of the triptych wearing garb reminiscent of their original costumes, hinting that "Fear State" will not only feature Barbara Gordon, but all three Batgirls fighting alongside each other.

The next issue in Tom Taylor and Redondo's run on Nightwing is issue #82, which goes on sale July 20 from DC Comics.
