Dick Grayson's life has been a running whirlwind lately, ever since he was shot in the head by KGBeast and enduring severe brain trauma. After having his mind tampered by the Court of Owls, Dick formed the splintered personality Ric Grayson before being targeted by the Clown Prince of Crime to turn against the Bat-Family during the recent crossover event "Joker War." As the dust from the epic conflict begins to settle across Gotham City, the recovered Dick finds some familiar faces checking in on him for the first time in an extended period: Donna Troy and Garth, his teammates on the original Teen Titans lineup.

The two old friends hadn't had the chance to reunite with Dick until after he made his recovery, visiting Dick at a hotel room that Bruce Wayne had set him up in after "Joker War" until his former ward got back on his feet. While Bruce had offered Dick to rejoin him at Wayne Manor, the original Boy Wonder politely declined, preferring his own space as a way to better clear his head with the sudden influx of his memories returning. With several of the original Titans back together, Garth and Donna can articulate how important Dick is to the DC Universe's superhero community.

Donna and Garth observe that without Dick and the Robin legacy, there would be no Titans in the DCU, with the young heroes constantly deferring to Dick's lead. While this has certainly inspired other heroes to step up and take on the mantle of Robin for themselves, Dick has also since played a major mentor role on subsequent iterations of the Titans as the DCU's original kid sidekick, even occasionally helping different rosters on the field to offer his veteran assistance. Even though Garth and Donna's place in the DCU has radically changed over the years, Dick has remained something like a constant, even after transitioning from Robin to Nightwing all those years ago.

Donna had been reimagined by the New 52 and early days of the DC Rebirth era as a magical creation specifically made from clay to destroy Wonder Woman instead of being an orphan rescued by Diana Prince at an early age. Despite this, Donna would remain on the path of a superhero and step up to lead the classic Titans while Dick was sidelined with his cranial gunshot wound. Garth would similarly have a tumultuous history into the New 52 and Rebirth eras after being killed in the pre-"Flashpoint" incarnation of the DCU during the crossover event Blackest Night." Back alive and well by the reality-altering events, Garth now serves as an official emissary with the Atlantean embassy to the surface world in addition to maintaining his superhero duties.

Just as Nightwing has usually provided a degree of stability and leadership through example for his fellow Titans during their various times of transition, Donna Troy and Garth have arrived to help Dick recover his recent traumatic ordeal. With their superhero past as the original Teen Titans restored moving into the DC Rebirth era, this overdue reunion is a reminder of what exactly makes Dick so special in the DCU's superhero community while underscoring that the Titans have always been a family and more than willing to help one of their own when they need to pick themselves back up.
