This is a feature called "Might Be Spoiling Me Too Much," where I spotlight instances of comic books (mostly inadvertently) spoiling other comic books (typically due to delays).

Today, we look at how Nightwing's new costume debuted in Batman: Shadow of the Bat instead of in New Titans!

Batman: Shadow of the Bat launched to great acclaim in 1992 (tying in with the release of the Batman Returns film), with Batman trapped in Arkham Asylum for some mysterious reason...

In the second issue, we learn that Batman supposedly snapped and killed a cop who was joking at a murder scene...

But in #1, we don't know WHAT'S what. We see Robin in action solo and he is suddenly accosted by Nightwing, who wants to know what's up. Dick is wearing a brand-new costume....

The following month, the costume "officially" debuted in New Titans #88 (by Marv Wolfman, Tom Grummett and Al Vey)...

And then a week later, we see it in action in Shadow of the Bat #2...

As Dick breaks into Arkham to see what's what...

Breyfogle did such a great job on the costume that I remember thinking at the time, "Wait, did they somehow let Norm Breyfogle design Nightwing's new costume?" But no, it is a Grummett design. It just got beaten to the punch by Shadow of the Bat #1!

If anyone else has a suggestion for this feature (whether the traditional "due to delays" or more intentional examples), feel free to drop me a line at brianc@cbr.com!
