Nightwing Director Wants a Little Help to Find the Right Star

While Chris McKay cautions not to expect casting announcements "any time soon," the Nightwing director is seeking input from fans about the most important quality an actor playing Dick Grayson should possess.

McKay, who helmed The LEGO Batman Movie, posted a poll on Twitter on Thursday, asking his followers to choose from among four qualities: "Recognizable movie star"; "A badass martial artist"; "Romani"; or "Vulnerable, emotional." As of this morning, "Badass martial artist" dominates with 47 percent of the vote, followed distantly by "Vulnerable, emotional," with 22 percent."

The filmmaker teased last month that he will have a Nightwing update sometime around Valentine's Day, which obviously won't involve casting. However, on Thursday McKay also offered up some early news, revealing the script is "expected very soon."

"Working on rip-o-matic to show studio," he wrote, referring to pitch video that's presented like a trailer, using footage and audio from already-released movies. "This is going to be a LONG process. So don't expect casting news any time soon. We are taking our time. Expect big things from DC, Geoff Johns and WB team! Exciting year ahead."

Ruling out a casting announcement, and considering McKay mentioned the script's status on Thursday, that would seem to leave a release date for his Valentine's Day Nightwing update.
