A variant cover for DC vs. Vampires has turned another beloved superhero into a creature of the night.

If you have been digging into the colorful nature of writer Tom Taylor and artist Bruno Redondo's Nightwing, this DC Elseworld story has a big change for you. Illustrated by artist Francesco Mattina, the art turns Dick Grayson aka Nightwing into another bloodthirsty vampire, causing this Flying Grayson to literally fly on the cover like Dracula himself. Of course, this is not the first Elseworld story that Mattina has crafted breathtaking card stock variants for.

  • Batman gets the upper hand on the vampires who have infiltrated the Justice League...but the Vampire King finally reveals himself, and it will be the most jaw-dropping moment of 2022! The shocking, bestselling series reaches its blood-drenched halfway point!

Mattina created variant covers for every single issue of DCeased and spinoff series like Unkillables and Dead Planet, penned by the aforementioned Taylor. Similar to the supernatural aspect of DC vs. Vampires, which focuses on a superhero world infiltrated by fanged foes, DCeased created a version of the DC Universe ravaged by a zombie apocalypse, seeing characters like Damian Wayne and Cassie Sandsmark become Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively, with Jon Kent becoming Superman before Taylor would later do so again in the ongoing Superman: Son of Kal-El series.

Though the hopeful Superman will team-up with Nightwing in comics soon, the variant cover begs the question of what Grayson's human status will be moving forward in this alternate universe. Following the series' second issue, members of the Bat Family -- including Batman, Batgirls Barbara Gordon and Cassandra Cain, Robins Tim Drake and Damian Wayne, Red Hood and Grayson -- assembled to prepare for the coming vampiric war. So far, their known enemies consist of vampire Green Lantern Hal Jordan, thought solicitations for future issues tease that more members of the Justice League will also become undead bloodsuckers.

The upcoming DC vs. Vampires #6 -- set to release in March 2022 -- will serve as the halfway point of the limited 12-issue series. The solicitation promises a major revelation regarding who the Vampire King is, someone who Jordan killed his best friend Barry Allen aka the Flash for in Issue #2. Mattina is not only set to make a variant cover for this issue, but every upcoming issue in the series announced thus far.

While DC vs. Vampires #6 does not release until March, the upcoming third issue in the series will be available Dec. 28 from DC Comics. The issue is written by James Tynion IV and Matthew Rosenberg, with pencils by Otto Schmidt.
