Batman and Alfred Pennyworth are about to have a standoff in Nightwing.

Series writer Tom Taylor posted a moment from the upcoming Nightwing #92 on Twitter, which shows Alfred -- Bruce Wayne's butler and father figure -- standing in the Caped Crusader's way while the two stare each other down. There is no text or speech bubbles accompanying the image, so it is unclear what exactly the confrontation will be about. However, being that Alfred is currently dead in modern DC continuity, this is most likely another flashback included in the Nightwing run led by Taylor and artist Bruno Redondo.

Alfred was murdered by Bane in Batman #77 in 2019, and he has been dead since without any resurrections. His absence has weighed heavily on members of the Bat Family, like Damian Wayne, who considered bringing Alfred back to life in Robin #12 due to his guilt, but ultimately decided against it. Nightwing focuses on Alfred's legacy a good amount, being that he left his fortune to Dick Grayson/Nightwing in his will, which Dick used to create the Alfred Pennyworth Foundation in Nightwing #83 to help his adopted city, Blüdhaven, and the world.

Nightwing has provided readers with many flashbacks featuring fan-favorite characters since Taylor and Redondo took over in Nightwing #78. The duo's premier issue opened with a flashback to a young Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon teaming up to fight some bullies, while the title's crossover with Superman: Son of Kal-El revealed a touching moment between Nightwing and Jon Kent, back when Jon was still Superboy instead of Superman.

There will not only be tension brewing between Batman and Alfred in Nightwing #92, but Blüdhaven as well. The upcoming issue kicks off what will be a "Battle for Blüdhaven's Heart," with villains like Blockbuster and Heartless making plays for the city. Blockbuster already tried to have Dick assassinated to put an end to his Haven project in the city, but those attempts were all prevented with help from Dick's sister Melinda Zucco, the Titans and the Flash/Wally West.

Solicitations also promise some news for fans of the Dick-Babs relationship. After Dick received some advice from Wally in the issue prior, the upcoming issue teases that Dick and Barbara will "finally define their relationship." How exactly their romance will be defined remains to be seen.

Nightwing #92 is written by Taylor with interior and main cover art from Redondo, colors by Adriano Lucas and letters by Wes Abbott. Variant covers for the issue were contributed to by Jamal Campbell, Jen Bartel and David Talaski. The issue goes on sale May 17 from DC Comics.
