For fans who ship Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon together, a new variant cover for Nightwing shows off their romance.

DC Comics revealed solicitations for its July 2022 comic book releases, and among the covers for Nightwing #94 is a variant from artist Jamal Campbell showing Dick and Babs getting very close while donning their heroic attire as Nightwing and Batgirl, respectively. Since writer Tom Taylor and artist Bruno Redondo took the helm of the current title with Nightwing #78, Barbara has once again become a significant part of Dick's life. In addition to appearing in every single issue since #78, solicitations for future issues indicate that their relationship will continue to grow and develop.

  • There’s a new commissioner in town, and it’s none other than Maggie Sawyer! But one clean commissioner does not make a whole bad basket of Blüdhaven police officers good, and now Blockbuster is forced to lean more on Nightwing’s sister, Mayor Zucco, to oversee the old commissioner’s illegal dealings…Then, an attack on Haven reveals some shocking truths to Nightwing and Oracle that make it difficult to recover from.

The series has long teased whether Dick and Barbara will officially be a couple again. Dick himself admitted to police that he did not know "the nature of their relationship" early on in Taylor's run, and the two didn't share their first kiss in the title until just before the Alfred Pennyworth Foundation was announced by Dick in Nightwing #83. Future solicitations tease that readers will not get an official answer to the will-they-won't-they story until Nightwing #92, when the two will "finally define their relationship."

Before that issue though, Nightwing will be spending some time with Wally West/The Flash. As of writing, Nightwing #91 is just days away from releasing, which serves as the latter half of a two-part crossover between the former Boy Wonder and the Scarlet Speedster. Because the crime boss Blockbuster is unhappy (to say the least) with Dick and his philantrhopic efforts, Wally raced to help his best friend after an explosive attempt was made on his life: destroying his apartment building with a missile.

Though his future with Barbara is uncertain aside from teases and romantic variant covers, Nightwing is set to become an even more prominent figure in the DC Universe. While he will still be dealing with his adopted city of Blüdhaven, promotional art for the upcoming Dark Crisis event shows Dick at the forefront, speaking at a memorial for the fallen Justice League and fighting against Deathstroke in a brual battle outside of the Roy Harper Titans Academy. The event is set to debut in June following "The Death of the Justice League" in Justice League #75, out later in April.

Nightwing #94 will be written by Taylor with interior and main cover art by Redondo. The aformentioned variant cover features the work of Campbell, while artist David Talaski is responsible for another cover featuring Wally West for the issue. Nightwing #94 is set to go on sale from DC Comics July 19, 2022.
