Benny is about to go on the ride of a lifetime. In Night Teeth, Netflix's new supernatural thriller, he trades places with his brother Jay to act as a rideshare driver for two young women who plan to paint LA red. However, his night quickly goes sideways when he realizes those two women are, in fact, vampires who hope to overthrow the undead underworld by sunrise -- and he'll need all his wits about him if he hopes to survive the experience.

Speaking to CBR, Night Teeth stars Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and Raúl Castillo explained how the film's tone and concept set it apart from other movies in the vampire genre. They broke down Benny and Jay's relationship, which they described as the heart of the film, and recalled how they clicked instantly when they met for the first time. They also shared the joy of seeing Latinx characters at the center of a vampire story and more.

CBR: These days, there are a whole lot of vampire movies out there. What do you think sets Night Teeth apart and makes it stand out in that crowd?

Jorge Lendeborg Jr.: Yeah, there are a bunch of vampire movies, but I feel like this one is honestly different in its tone, its bloodline, its thirst for thrills. I think it hits a chord that really hasn't existed in the landscape of vampire movies. The lighting, for one instance, is like a neon, sexy kind of thing going on. The music really aids into the whole atmosphere. So I feel like just the ride that Benny's character is in with these vampires is one that has never -- there's never been [one] like that. It's just dope.

Raúl Castillo: I love that, in the age of -- right now, everything is an adaptation of something or everything is sourced from a book or from a previous film, and Night Teeth is just an original concept that [writer] Brett [Dillon] came up with and Adam [Randall] beautifully directed. It is a genre film.

The thing that always struck me was the storyline of the brothers, of Benny and Jay. It's got a lot of heart to it. It is a vampire film. It's sexy as hell. It's got all these great elements, this wonderful ensemble cast. But at the end of the day, I have to connect with the script as an actor and, to me, the the brothers' storyline really moved me. It felt genuine, even in the midst of this fun thriller that is Night Teeth, that we still have a lot of heart. The film has heart to it.

Benny and Jay have this wonderful relationship, but it isn't shown much on screen. How did you both work together to develop that brotherly dynamic?

Castillo: As soon as I landed in New Orleans last year, I think Jorge, we met at the production offices. Then it was just -- you either click with someone or you don't. That's how I've found acting to be, and Jorge -- from the minute we met -- it was sort of like the history already felt authentic and real. It wasn't something we had to manufacture. The chemistry was already there. If felt like there was already a natural ease in the brotherhood of it. Then Marlene Forte, who plays our grandma... she was the glue in the whole thing.

But Adam Randall, our director, he was great at setting Jorge and I up from the get go and putting us together. Yeah, you can't fake that funk, so to speak. So it was nice that it was effortless, because you don't always get that.

Lendeborg Jr.: I just second when Raul all set. You know, it was instantaneous. We got on set, as soon as we started talking, the cadences that we needed for the character were there.

Which aspect of your character do you relate to the most and why?

Lendeborg Jr.: I feel like Benny is, more than anything, a really kind-hearted individual. He's earnest, and he wears his emotions on his sleeves. You know, that's something that this world definitely can chastise you for here and there, but in my essence, I feel like I'm definitely most like him in that sense. He knows that he's a good person.

He's so sheltered. He's sheltered, because he's never left this part of his town. In that sense, we're definitely different, but the way that he conducts himself is very much just based off of how I feel like I am naturally, in a way.

Castillo: Going back to the brother thing, that storyline -- I mean, I have a brother, but I'm a younger brother, but I know what that relationship is. I was the first in my family to go off to college and leave home. I remember that struggle with my brother and I getting to that point where you kind of -- your older brother is watching you become a man. I've been through that on Benny's side of the journey.

But I also think we don't get to see Latinx people in vampire films, certainly. We normally get killed off. Night Teeth does it so brilliantly and it doesn't hit you over the head with it. The Benny and Jay characters, they're from East LA. LA is such a specific kind of town, and certainly as a Latin person, navigating that town is really an interesting thing. So I love watching Benny, especially, get to go all over town with these two gorgeous vampire ladies and how he navigates that, how it's like this coming of age story, which I think is really poignant and wonderful.

Night Teeth is now available on Netflix.
