While fan excitement is rapidly reaching fever pitch ahead of Wonder Woman's opening weekend, there's another "female warrior" already waiting in the wings of the DC Extended Universe: Aquaman's Queen Atlanna, played by Nicole Kidman.

In an interview with Deadline, the Oscar winner discussed how she was recruited for the role by director James Wan.

“Well, James Wan is Australian, and he’s a friend of mine," Kidman said. "I think he’s going to make an amazing movie. We’ve always circled each other, so when he came to me, I was like, ‘James, I’ll do anything for you.’ When he said ‘female warrior from the sea’ who wears mother-of-pearl, I went, ‘Yes. Female warrior from the sea. Me like.’”

While Aquaman will be Kidman's first superhero movie since 1995's Batman Forever, the actress was reported in 2015 to be in talks for a role in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman.
