Acclaimed actor Nicolas Cage has revealed which egg-centric Batman villain he'd like to play on the big screen.

In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast during the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, Cage explained why he would like to play the Batman villain Egghead, originally from the 1966 Batman series starring Adam West, in a feature film. "You know what I mean it’s like, Egghead is Vincent Price right? He’s one of our other great American superstar actors that I revere and had so much fun watching growing up," the actor said. "So I was watching the Batman show because I really wanted to see what Vincent Price was going to do. And the character’s hilarious. I mean, everything starts with 'Egg-cellent.' And it’s, 'Egg-static.'"

Batman fans shouldn't get too egg-cited just yet though as Cage added that he had no interest in calling Warner Bros. to pitch the idea. "This is just more of a fun little thing. Cause I’m on a red carpet, somebody asks me a question, I want to give them a funny answer," he continued. "But there is an approach to that character that could be terrifying. And I’ve thought a lot about it. I’m not going to share it with you."

Vincent Price first appeared as Egghead in the Batman episode "An Egg Grows in Gotham." The character was created specifically for the 1960s television series and was known for his bald, egg-shaped head and white and yellow suit. Price made five appearances as the Batman villain in the 1960s series. Following Batman's cancelation, the character was written into DC comic book canon and has appeared in the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold and the animated films Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, The Lego Batman Movie and Batman vs. Two-Face.

The Future of Batman in Film

Should Warner Bros. be interested in casting Cage as Egghead, the company has several Batman-related films in the works that could be a good fit for the cinematic pairing. Writer-director Matt Reeves is still working on the screenplay for The Batman 2, which will feature Robert Pattinson back as the Caped Crusader. Cage's Egghead could also appear as a foil for Joaquin Phoenix's Joker in Joker: Folie à Deux. However, the most likely scenario would be for Cage to join the DC Extended Universe and appear as Egghead in a future Suicide Squad movie, allowing him a chance to chew scenery with other DC supervillains like King Shark, Deadshot, Harley Quinn and Ratcatcher.

Cage is currently filming the psychological thriller Sympathy for the Devil in Las Vegas with The Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman. The actor also has four films awaiting release, including westerns Butcher's Crossing and The Old Way, action film The Retirement Plan and horror comedy film Renfield, the latter of which will allow audiences to see Cage's take on Count Dracula.
