Nicolas Cage says that Marvel Studios has yet to approach him about reprising his role as Johnny Blaze aka Ghost Rider.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Cage said that he's never spoken to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "That hasn't happened, but what's interesting is nobody asked me about going back to Ghost Rider," said Cage. "That was a question that came up, and they weren't asking about Ghost Rider, they were asking 'What do you think of the Marvel movies?' And I gave my opinion about it." Cage played the leading role in the 2007 movie Ghost Riderreturning to the fiery hero in 2011 for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

When asked if he had any interest in returning to the role, Cage expressed a fondness for Johnny Blaze, explaining why he was so so drawn to the part. "Ghost Rider is an amazing character," said Cage. "I mean, he's a complicated character. It's kind of like, how do you tell the story of Faust within the context of that universe? Because it's a very philosophical character. I think it makes him special from other superheroes." The actor did not expressly state whether he'd be interested in taking up the mantle once again for the MCU.

Cage's Ghost Rider films chronicle the story of Johnny Blaze, a stunt motorcycle rider who sells his soul to Mephistopheles to cure his father's cancer. Johhny assumes the role of the Ghost Rider, a mythical warrior able to inflict severe pain and penance on the souls of the wicked. The original film debuted to a mixed reception from fans and critics alike but has gone on to become a cult classic among fans of Cage's body of work. Ghost Rider was enough of a financial success to earn a sequel, Spirit of Vengeance, which premiered to largely negative reviews.
