Nickelodeon's limited series revival of Are You Afraid of the Dark? has found its cast, which includes an alum from the horror blockbuster It.
According to Deadline, Jeremy Taylor will appear in the revival. Taylor played the character Ben Hanscom in the first It. In It: Chapter Two, Ben's adult counterpart will be played by New Zealand actor Jay Ryan. Taylor also appeared in Goosebumps 2:Haunted Halloween.
The cast of the new Are You Afraid of the Dark? will also include Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.), Miya Cech (Rim of the World), Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch), Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick, Black-ish) and Rafael Casal (Blindspotting). It is directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers, Project Almanac) and written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace).
Created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel, the original Are You Afraid of the Dark? series ran between 1992 and 1996, then returned from 1999-2000. Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a horror anthology series where a group of kids called the Midnight Society would meet up after dark to swap scary stories, which featured ghosts, aliens, monsters and evil clowns. Each story would become the subject of that episode. The series was one of the first horror-centered shows made for children.
Taylor will play a member of the new Midnight Society in the revival, alongside Arnold, Cech, Smart and Wray. In this hour-long limited series, the Midnight Society will tell a terrifying tale about the insidious Carnival of Doom, which -- to their horror -- comes to life as they tell the story. Casal will play the Carnival's ringmaster Mr. Tophat.
Originally, the miniseries was scheduled to debut in conjunction with the Are You Afraid of the Dark? theatrical film in October, but the film has since been delayed.
