However, an unexpected byproduct -- for better or worse -- appears to be renewed online interest in Planet Sheen.Shortly after the release of the Patrick Star Show teaser, Planet Sheen began trending on Twitter, with many comparing the two projects since both are spinoffs centered on the comic relief characters of their respective franchises.RELATED: Why Nickelodeon Finally Created SpongeBob Spinoffs

Planet Sheen was a spinoff of The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and featured Jeffrey Garcia reprising his role as Sheen Estevez, who accidentally blasts himself to an alien planet after sneaking into Jimmy's lab. The series debuted in 2010 and ran for just one season across 26 episodes.

As for The Patrick Star Show, the series was greenlit in March and will focus on SpongeBob's beloved buffoon-of-a-starfish neighbor prior to the events of SpongeBob SquarePants.

The Patrick Star Show follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. His little sister, Squidina, works behind the scenes to make sure Patrick’s show is always running smoothly, while his parents, Bunny and Cecil and his grandpa, GrandPat, each support Patrick in their own hilariously absurd ways. The Star family’s unpredictable adventures often inform, integrate, and sometimes even interfere with Patrick’s TV show, but one thing is for sure: his bizarre life always makes for great television!

The Patrick Star Show stars Bill Fagerbakke, Tom Wilson, Cree Summer, Jill Talley, Dana Snyder, Tom Kenny, Rodger Bumpass, Carolyn Lawrence, Clancy Brown and Mr. Lawrence. The series premieres in July on Nickelodeon.
