One of the best parts of Demon Slayer is its extensive cast of lovable characters. Even though there are plenty of despicable villains, the kindness of the heroes balances everything out. Following Tanjiro Kamado after he joins the Demon Slayer Corps to avenge his family and heal his sister Nezuko, he comes across plenty of interesting personalities.
Whether it's the nine eccentric Hashira or the combined might of the main trio, there's never a dull moment in the series. Demon Slayer can get dark sometimes, but fans appreciate the heroes' kindness, bravery, and compassion to lighten up the series' nightmarish reality.
10 Urokodaki Was A Compassionate Mentor For Giyu & Tanjiro
Urokodaki is the former Water Hashira. He's the one who created Water Breathing and imparted this technique to Giyu and Tanjiro. Even though he comes off as the typical grouch, he's a compassionate mentor who wants to see his apprentices succeed. That's why his training is strenuous and rigorous.
He was one of the first to believe that Nezuko would never harm someone and even hypnotized her to ensure that she'd see humans as family and other demons as the enemy. When Tanjiro and Nezuko were taken to meet the leader of the Corps, Urokodaki wrote a letter explaining Tanjiro's situation. The letter was enough to change a few of the Hashira's perspectives, even if just a bit.
9 Shinobu Keeps Her Inner Turmoil Hidden Behind A Smile
Everyone knows that Shinobu is the kind insect Hashira with extensive knowledge of medicinal herbs. She injects the demons with her poisons, killing them with a smile. To fellow demon slayers, she comes off as cheerful, polite, and occasionally playful when she's teasing others. However, behind this façade lies tons of inner turmoil.
In reality, Shinobu's hatred of demons has been eating away at her for years because of what happened to her sister. When her inner darkness emerges, it's not pretty for any demon around her. Shinobu has a temper that would even put Inosuke to shame. However, this shouldn't take away from the fact that she's a genuinely kind person.
8 Tengen Is Flashy, But That's Not The Only Good Thing About Him
The first thing that Tengen demands everybody know about him is that he's the flashiest person they'll ever meet. He's eccentric and tends to make some pretty concerning statements, like when he said it'd be super flamboyant to watch Tanjiro's blood vessels blow up.
However, his flashiness isn't his only good quality. Despite his constant boastful bragging and apparent god complex, Tengen is a compassionate guy who just wants to do his best. He cares for all three of his wives deeply. Plus, he tried his hardest to look after the main trio during the Entertainment District arc.
7 Giyu Was The First One To See Potential In Tanjiro & Nezuko
Giyu first met Tanjiro and Nezuko after Muzan slaughtered most of the Kamado family. Tanjiro tried to escort his sister to safety, but Giyu ambushed them and tried to kill Nezuko. However, he was surprised to see that, despite her hunger, Nezuko was more concerned with protecting Tanjiro than attacking him.
Giyu was the first person to see the siblings' potential and even recommended them to Urokodaki. By doing so, he violated the Demon Slayer Corps' rules. Later, he broke the rules again when he protected Nezuko from Shinobu. It doesn't seem like Giyu has as much hatred for demons as the rest of the Corps does – at least if they aren't actively killing humans.
6 Inosuke Might Act Like A Wild Boar, But He Has Plenty Of Admirable Qualities
When Inosuke made his debut in Demon Slayer, fans found it hard to believe he could ever be an ally to the main cast. He was crude, hot-tempered, and thought that violence was always the answer. In one of his first scenes, Inosuke was pummeling Zenitsu to try and kill Nezuko, despite having never met her.
However, while working alongside Tanjiro and Zenitsu, Inosuke learned some valuable lessons. Even though he's always trying to provoke others into a fight, he's come to accept that he might not be the strongest. Inosuke learned to respect the people around him, and now he understands the importance of being a loyal friend.
5 Rengoku Was A Favorite Among The Other Hashira
Rengoku's death left a massive void among his fellow Hashira. Even before his death, they would praise him and hold him in high regard. He was a favorite among not just the Hashira, but the Corps as a whole. Rengoku was an outgoing, compassionate guy who took on every job with immense passion and excitement.
He was a kind mentor for the short time he worked with the main trio. He used his final breaths to encourage Tanjiro never to stop fighting and even recognized Nezuko as a true member of the Demon Slayer Corps.
4 Zenitsu Just Wants To Prove His Worth To The World
Even though he's a coward who can't help but crumble under pressure, Zenitsu still hopes that he can prove his worth to the world. Despite his weaknesses, Zenitsu has significantly grown throughout the series and even became braver, like when he didn't hesitate to stand up to Daki.
Even though he's the textbook definition of a coward, Zenitsu's best qualities often go overlooked because of his less than savory attributes. However, there's no denying that Zenitsu is a compassionate and loyal friend to Tanjiro. Plus, he'd do anything to protect Nezuko.
3 Nezuko Is The Friendliest Demon In The Series
A few demons have proven that they're capable of coexisting with humans in the series, such as Tamayo and Yushiro. However, Nezuko is the friendliest demon anyone will ever meet. As a human, she was just as outgoing and compassionate. But as a demon, she's proven her loyalty to not only Tanjiro, but to humanity as a whole.
Unlike most demons, Nezuko managed to retain most of her human emotions. Even though she's significantly less emotional than the humans around her, she's still in touch with her feelings and isn't afraid to express them. Since she views humans as family, she'll occasionally imagine her lost siblings in the humans she encounters.
2 Mitsuri Never Has Anything Mean To Say About Anyone
Since she's the Love Hashira, it just makes sense for Mitsuri to be one of Demon Slayer's kindest and most compassionate characters. She always compliments the people around her, even if it's just mentally. She can also find everybody's best qualities.
While others may find someone else's behavior abhorrent or just obnoxious, Mitsuri will find a way to compliment them. Her kindness is one of the reasons why she's another favorite among the Hashira. Her warmth and generosity even melted the icy heart of Obanai, the Serpent Hashira.
1 Tanjiro's Compassion Knows No Bounds
Tanjiro's standout quality is his compassion. When he kills a demon, he wants to stay by their side and listen to their final words. When Tanjiro killed the Drum Demon, he praised him for his strength and recognized the demon's artistry. The compliments brought him to tears as he disintegrated because that was the first time someone saw any value in his work.
Several similar occurrences in the series proved that Tanjiro treats both humans and demons with equal amounts of kindness. However, one scene in Mugen Train proved that Tanjiro doesn't have a malicious bone in his body. When one of the insomniacs working for Enmu wanted to locate Tanjiro's spiritual core and destroy it, a group of sprites appeared and kindly guided him to it. Even though he tried to destroy it, the manifestations of Tanjiro's soul still wanted to help him.
