While Lucasfilm hasn't said anything definitive about the future of Star Wars, a new rumor claims the next series of films will take place during the High Republic.

MakingStarWars.net posted alleged details about the follow-up to the Skywalker Saga, claiming a source close to the production of the next slate of movies revealed some key details. Though not a strict trilogy, a new set of films will all tie together and take place during the High Republic, a period 400 years before Luke's adventures. During this time, the Sith's infamous Rule of Two will be in effect, and we'll also see a younger version of Jedi Master Yoda.

According to the site, these new films are what Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff were originally working on before they left the Star Wars universe. Rumors swirled that these films would take place during the Old Republic, something fans have wanted to see adapted to film for some time. Instead, it looks as though the upcoming batch of films will be considerably closer to what we've already seen on the big screen, assuming the information is accurate.

Though it will likely be a while before we learn any concrete details about the future of Star Wars, the rumors do make sense. Disney and Lucasfilm will want to keep certain ties to the established films alive, and going all the way back to the Old Republic makes that challenging. But due to Yoda's advanced age, setting a film just 400 years in the past allows a key character to stick around—and be in his prime.
