ReedPop's New York Comic Con is planning to host an in-person event this year that includes a virtual element.

In 2020, NYCC went virtual due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, a representative from ReedPop told THR that an in-person event is planned for this year from Oct. 7-10 at the show's normal home, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (in October 2020, the Javits Center was turned into a medical facility by FEMA). The rep also noted that there will be a virtual element to the show, though specifics remain scarce.

This news follows the announcement that Comic-Con International in San Diego, which was planning an in-person event over the Thanksgiving weekend, may no longer be in the cards. "Comic-Con Special Edition was never intended to be the large gathering reflective of the summer event," Comic-Con wrote in a statement. "As a shorter event, it was our attempt to start slowly and cautiously while at the same time addressing the desire from fans to have an in-person show. There are still many factors that are unknown to us at this time, including space accommodations, travel restrictions, capacity restrictions, and required safety protocols. While open to all and with the hope that we will be able to accommodate fans from all over, we understand that due to potential travel-based restrictions and challenges, Comic-Con Special Edition may be an event attended mostly by fans more easily able to travel to San Diego."

New York Comic Con launched in 2006 and in 2014, it even surpassed SDCC in terms of size with 151,000.
