Universal Pictures and director Edgar Wright whet our appetites for The World's End in July with a typographical Comic-Con International teaser poster, but now Empire and Fandango have unveiled the real deal, and it's just as clever as you might expect.
The conclusion of the comedy trilogy that began in 2004 with Shaun of the Dead and continued in 2007 with Hot Fuzz, The World's End reunites Wright with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and picks up 20 years after an epic pub crawl, with a 40-year-old Gary King dragging his childhood friends back to their hometown to make another attempt at reaching the fabled pub … The World’s End. But as they try to reconcile the past with the present, they realize the struggle isn’t only for their future but for humanity’s.
Written by Wright and Pegg, the film also features The Hobbit star Martin Freeman, who appeared in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, as well as Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz, The Bourne Ultimatum), Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) and Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher). The World's End opens Aug. 14, 2013 in the United Kingdom and Oct. 25, 2013 in the United States.
