Hammer Films knows how to scare you, and the latest trailer for The Woman in Black, starring Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe, is a testament to that fact. There are creepy toys, a slowed down music box chime, a trio of ginger-haired girls moving in tandem, photo portraits with the eyes of the subjects scratched out, a Harry Potter connection ... it's like a potpourri of everything that jostles you awake in the middle of the night.
The movie is based on the 1983 novel by Susan Hill, and it was previously adapted in a 1989 release on UK TV. The Radcliffe-starring remake is still a ways off, with the premiere set for Feb. 3, 2012. Looking very good right now, though.
The story follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, his unease growing when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black. Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the Woman in Black on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true intent.
