Dynamite Entertainment has revealed another one of their New York Comic Con announcements, this time focusing on the cult favorite character Vampirella. Beginning in February 2017, Paul Cornell will write an all-new Vampirella series. The debut issue will also come with an introductory price of $0.25.

Cornell has a lengthy resume, including stints writing for the "Doctor Who" television series and superhero series like "Action Comics" and "Wolverine." The new Vampirella series sees Cornell reteaming with frequent collaborator artist Jimmy Broxton. Cornell and Broxton previously worked on DC's "Knight & Squire" as well as Vertigo's "Saucer Country" and IDW's "Doctor Who Special."

"I'm delighted to be writing a Vampirella that takes onboard everything she's been and moves it forward into a new setting, where the gothic meets science fiction," said Cornell in the press release. "I'm also delighted to be working again with my old friends, the incredibly talented artist Jimmy Broxton, and the incredibly talented editor, Matt Idelson."

Cornell also touched upon the audience he hopes to attract with Vampirella. "I'm hoping especially to find a female audience," said Cornell. "The character's often been regarded as a nostalgia item, cheesecake, and we're building on previous efforts to keep moving away from that to something more interesting. I'm excited to be building a whole new world, I'm loving what Jimmy's art is doing (Barbarella! Hepburn!), and I hope that excitement communicates itself to the reader."

Created by Forrest J Ackerman and Trina Robbins, the iconic vampire debuted in 1969's black and white magazine "Vampirella" #1. Vampirella's comic adventures were handled by Warren Publishing and Harris Publications for the next 30 years. Dynamite Entertainment acquired the Vampirella license in 2010 and has since published a number of ongoing and limited series featuring the character. The most recent "Vampirella" series featued Kate Leth and Eman Cassallos as its creative team.

Paul Cornell is an English writer of novels, comic books and television, perhaps best known for his work on Doctor Who, dating back to 1990. Since that time, Cornell has written over ten Doctor Who novels, as well as multiple series for both DC and Marvel, as well as the widely celebrated Vertigo series, Saucer Country.

"I'm supremely jazzed to have the chance to work on Vampirella, a character with an incredibly rich history and a touchstone still for many readers today," says Matt Idelson, Senior Editor. Vampirella is a raven-haired heroine who remains, even after 45 years of publication, one of the comic industry's most well known characters, due in no small part to Dynamite Entertainment. Since Vampirella's very healthy resurgence in 2010, Dynamite has published three volumes of a monthly series, several miniseries and one-shot specials, and crossovers with multimedia brands and comic book peers. The Vampirella franchise is a haven for writers and artists with a penchant for the macabre.
