The Ghibli ga Ippai Kantoku mo Ippai Collection is a new collection of works by Studio Ghibli that is scheduled for release later this year. The collection will feature a special surprise for diehard fans of the animation studio.

The Ghibli ga Ippai Kantoku mo Ippai Collection will include the first Ghiblies short film. The 12-minute comedic film premiered on NTV on April 8, 2000. It was directed by Yoshiyuki Momose (Pom PokoThe Tale of the Princess Kaguya) and produced by Hiroyuki Watanabe (Spirited AwayThe Secret World of Arrietty). This will be the first time Ghiblies has ever been made available on Blu-ray and DVD. Additionally, the collection will include Momose's Ghiblies Episode 2.

The purpose of the Ghibli ga Ippai Kantoku mo Ippai Collection is to highlight Studio Ghibli's directors other than the iconic Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Beyond Momose, the collection spotlights Goro Miyazaki -- the son of Hayao Miyazaki -- and features his movies Tales from EarthseaFrom Up On Poppy Hill and Earwig and The Witch.

• Whisper of the Heart by Yoshifumi Kondō

The Cat Returns by Hiroyuki Morita

The Secret World of Arrietty by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (includes the English dub and subtitles on the Blu-ray version of the collection)

When Marnie Was There by Hiromasa Yonebayashi

The Red Turtle by Michael Dudok de Wit

The Ghibli ga Ippai Kantoku mo Ippai Collection is the third Blu-ray/DVD collection from Studio Ghibli: Both Miyazaki Hayao Kantoku Sakuhin-shū (The Collected Works of Director Hayao Miyazaki) and Takahata Isao Kantoku Sakuhin-shū (The Collected Works of Director Isao Takahata) were originally released in 2015.

The announcement of this new collection isn't the only recent development that has fans of Studio Ghibli excited. For example, a giant Totoro balloon was unveiled at the Studio Ghibli Museum to celebrate its 20th anniversary, a catalog featuring never-before-seen production artwork from Hayao Miyazaki was recently released by Del Monico Books and The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and Studio Ghibli provided a special behind-the-scenes look at the production and characters of Princess Mononoke.

The Ghibli ga Ippai Kantoku mo Ippai Collection is scheduled for release on Dec. 1. Many of Studio Ghibli's classic films like Spirited AwayNausicaa of the Valley of the WindCastle in the SkyHowl's Moving CastleFrom Up on Poppy Hill and Porco Rosso can be streamed on HBO Max.
