Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that future Star Wars films won't premiere on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

The streaming service, which will become the de facto streaming home for franchises such as the Muppets, Marvel and Star Wars. While the service will be where upcoming television shows like Star Wars: The Mandalorian  and new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will premiere, it appears that it won't be where upcoming Star Wars films premiere.

During an interview with Barrons, Disney CEO Bob Iger explained that there's no intention to use the service as the launching point for films," Iger said. "Almost every movie the studio makes is a $100 million-plus movie, and we’re not looking to make movies at that level for the service."

"We’re looking to invest significantly in television series on a per-episode business," he added. "And we’re looking to make movies that are higher-budget, but nothing like that."

Iger admitted that the movies will eventually come to the service, but that the buzz around releasing a film in theaters is still a priority for the company.

The first original Star Wars property to premiere on Disney+ will be Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Created by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte, the series is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2019.
