The new "Star Trek" series will debut on CBS' streaming service CBS All Access in the spring 2017. The series will be helmed by  "Hannibal's" Bryan Fuller. Fuller's other series in production, a Starz adaptation of "American Gods," is also filming in Toronto this year.

According to CBS executives, "Star Trek" will "introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966."

"Star Trek" joins an extensive list of productions currently filming in Toronto, including "Orphan Black," "Rocky Horror Picture Show," "American Gothic," "Dark Matter," "Taken," "The Expanse," and "The Strain."
