Official Press Release
When Dark Horse Comics began publishing Tony Millionaire’s beautifully drawn Sock Monkey comic-book series in 1998, comics readers discovered a strange and delightful world where toys come to life and the temptation of discovery can turn innocent curiosity into a force of destruction. The multiple Eisner-Award-winning comic-book series Sock Monkey continues November 7 with the release of a new illustrated storybook, Sock Monkey: A Children’s Book, published by Dark Horse Maverick.
From the darkest jungles of Borneo, into the magical Victorian mansions of New England, writer/artist Tony Millionaire follows the adventures of a wooly and wily little sock monkey after he is first made. The newly-made monkey, named Uncle Gabby, quickly discovers the strange and confusing delights of living in a magical home where dolls and toys come to life under the sweet and watchful eye of a young girl named Ann Louise. With the misguided guidance of a well-meaning new best friend, Mr. Crow, Uncle Gabby begins a life of sweet complication and bizarre adventure, to the reading delight of audiences the world over.
Sock Monkey: A Children’s Book marks the first time Tony Millionaire has written a prose story, complemented by his gorgeous black-and-white line drawings.
“I have been an illustrator for my whole life,” said Millionaire, “so doing an illustration without the boxes and word balloons is just another way to work. And I always loved children books, so it’s great to be able to do this. I really don’t like to plan what I am going to do in the future, just because I never know what I’m going to end up doing. But I do love children’s books and I do love comics, so I am sure there will be plenty of them coming out of me in the future.”
This 80-page, black-and-white original illustrated storybook will be available starting November 7 at book stores and comic shops everywhere for $9.95
