New set photos provide a first look at Joaquin Phoenix's take on Joker in Warner Bros.' upcoming film of the same name.
The images, which come from Just Jared, show Phoenix's Joker on set in New York City, where the movie was rumored to be filming. Director Todd Phillips teased the start of principal photography at the start of this month.
Recent photos of Phoenix confirmed he has been losing weight for his role as the Clown Prince of Crime. With the Walk the Line actor sporting longer hair and a more gaunt appearance in line with the comic book version of The Joker. The project is expected to launch a new DC Films banner for features set outside the continuity of the so-called DC Extended Universe.
There has been a recent flurry of activity surrounding Joker, with character details about Robert De Niro’s role and the quick casting/departure of Alec Baldwin as Thomas Wayne. With most of the movie’s big names locked in, fans can expect plenty of news and behind-the-scenes shots as Joker gets under way.
Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character, along with Robert De Niro, Marc Maron and Zazie Beetz. It is scheduled to be released on Oct. 4, 2019.
