If you're looking for a story with a happy ending, "A Series of Unfortunate Events" isn't for you. The latest trailer for the upcoming Netflix series advises viewers to look elsewhere, as this series will assuredly be unpleasant. As seen in the snippets that follow, that turns out to be very true, as Neil Patrick Harris' Count Olaf terrorizes the Baudelaire orphans at every turn.

The trailer offers a little insight to Olaf's plan: steal the children's fortune. Over the course of the promo, the Baudelaires encounter all manner of interesting characters, none of whom seem particularly interested in bailing them out of their unfortunate situation.

As in the novels by author Daniel Handler and in the 2004 film, “A Series of Unfortunate Events” chronicles the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. Debuting Jan. 13 on Netflix, the series also stars Malina Weissman as Violet, Louis Hynes as Klaus, Bernadette Peters as Aunt Josephine, Joan Cusack as Justice Strauss, Aasif Mandvi as Uncle Monty, Catherine O’Hara as Dr. Georgina Orwell, K. Todd Freeman as Mr. Arthur Poe, Don Johnson as Sir and Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket.
