No sooner was it reported the next installment of the "Saw" franchise had moved beyond rumor and wishful thinking than Lionsgate confirmed the horror film by announcing a release date.

The as-yet-untitled movie, referred to by many as "Saw: Legacy," is set to arrive Oct. 27, 2017, with directors Michael and Peter Spierig ("Daybreakers," "Predestination") behind the camera. It’s still not known whether this project will be a sequel to 2010's "Saw 3D" or a reboot of the franchise.

Debuting in 2004, "Saw" marked the feature directorial debut of James Wan, who of course went on to helm "Insidious," "The Conjuring" and their sequels, as well as the big-budget "Furious 7." Produced for just $1.2 million, "Saw" was a massive success, earning nearly $104 million worldwide. To date, the film has spawned six sequels, a pair of video games, and a handful of theme park rides.
