"Archie" will get a whole new lease on life in "Riverdale," The CW's gritty reimagining of the beloved Archie Comics canon of characters. A new teaser trailer from Entertainment Weekly offers a few flashes of the upcoming series, including a few shots of Archie running shirtless down a dark street, one character looking down at their bloody hands, a traumatized Cheryl Blossom sitting on a river's edge and more. The promo also seems to tease Archie and Ms. Grundy's burgeoning -- if forbidden -- romantic relationship.

The series — which stars KJ Apa, Luke Perry, Cole Sprouse and more — has set the well-known characters of Archie Comics into a subversive, surreal “Twin Peaks”-like setting. The show will explore the themes of love, family, high school and a tragic death, in what appears to be a much less kid-friendly take than typical Archie fare. It’s also executive produced by Greg Berlanti, who’s also the driving creative force of The CW’s “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Supergirl” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”

Starring K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, "Riverdale" will debut Thursday, January 26 at 9 pm on The CW. The series also stars Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle and more.
