Archie may know a lot more about Jason Blossom's death than he's letting on. In a new promo for "Riverdale," Archie and his lover/teacher Ms. Grundy appear to witness a crucial part of the murder.

The promo opens with a shot of Archie and Ms. Grundy kissing passionately, only for them to break apart at the sound of a gunshot and a scream. The trailer then cuts to a distraught Cheryl Blossom and her brother Jason's lifeless body as he floats down a river.

This may have a little something to do with an earlier TV spot, which teased that Archie has a secret in the upcoming series. After all, in that earlier promo, Jughead told his best friend, “A kid is dead, Archie, and she’s telling you not to say anything.” The "she" Jughead is referring could very well be Ms. Grundy, who could lose her job if word got out that she had an affair with a student.

Archie, Ms. Grundy and Cheryl aren't the only characters who turn up in this new promo. Betty and Veronica seem to go in for a kiss of their own, while Veronica promises a reckoning. Betty also seems to have discovered a gun, and Cheryl is led down the halls of Riverdale High by a police escort. Another brief shot appears to show Jason's autopsy before cutting to a big bag filled with money.

"Neither I nor my parents will rest until Jason's death is avenged," Cheryl warns.

“Riverdale” sets the well-known characters of Archie Comics into a subversive, surreal “Twin Peaks”-like setting. The show will explore the themes of love, family, high school and a tragic death, in what appears to be a much less kid-friendly take than typical Archie fare. It’s also executive produced by Greg Berlanti, who’s also the driving creative force of The CW’s “The Flash,” “Arrow,” “Supergirl” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”

Starring K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, “Riverdale” will debut Thursday, January 26 at 9 pm on The CW. The series also stars Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle and more. “Breakfast Club” alum Molly Ringwald will also recur as Archie’s mother Mary.
