Edgar Wright takes his time when directing a movie. Since breaking out with 2004’s Shaun of the Dead, he’s kept a pretty steady movie-every-three-years schedule. Hot Fuzz debuted in 2007, followed by Scott Pilgrim vs. The World in 2010. His next project, The World’s End, reunites him with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, with whom he first worked on the 1999-2001 BBC series Spaced.
This time, instead of taking on the conventions of zombie and cop movies, the trio takes aim at end-of-the-world stories. Pegg, Frost and their old pals, played by Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows), get together for a pub crawl to get reacquainted. As it happens, the boys will also have to help save the world. Empire scored a couple of exclusive photos of Pegg looking all dramatic and harried, and the guys tipping back a pint.
“When you’ve seen the film, you’ll be able to relate each pub name to what happens inside,” Pegg said ,referring to the names seen on the very first The World’s End poster. The film, co-written by Pegg and Wright, is set for an Aug. 14 release.
