As the very first live-action film from Pixar's Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E), John Carter has a lot riding on his shoulders. Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel A Princess of Mars and a few decades' worth of other stories, the film follows Civil War soldier Carter, who gets transported to a Mars mired in a war between red and green Martians. Carter uses his soldiering skills to keep himself alive and join in on the fighting as the planet's life-support systems begin to wear out.
The film, which opens March 9, stars Taylor Kitsch starring as Carter, Lynn Collins, Bryan Cranston, Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, Dominic West, Thomas Hayden Church and more also appearing. Stanton took a pass at the script, which was also revised by novelist Michael Chabon (Wonder Boys, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay) and Mark Andrews (Star Wars: Clone Wars, Samurai Jack).
