While House of X and Powers of X just finished up planting seeds for the future of the X-Men, those seeds will start to bloom in upcoming Marvel's Dawn of X relaunch, which will see several fan-favorite X-titles return.
Marvel has given CBR an exclusive first look at Stanley "Artgerm" Lau's variant cover to New Mutants #1, by Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brisson and Rod Reis. The cover features Illyana Rasputin as Magik, seemingly surrounded by the fires of Limbo, the hellish dimension that she frequently rules.
While Magik didn't have the biggest role in House of X or Powers of X, she'll join her fellow young X-Men in New Mutants, where they'll take to the stars to look for one of their own in their new ongoing series.
While Sunspot, Karma, Wolfsbane, Moonstar and the rest of her teammates will wear an updated version of the team's usual uniforms, Magik will have her modern costume, which reflects her unique experiences outside of the team. Although she originally encountered the team as Colossus' little sister, she spent years of her adolescence in the torturous Limbo dimension, where she learned to hone her teleporting powers and magical abilities in a harsh environment that turned her into a ruthless fighter.
In addition to this New Mutants cover, Lau has also created an X-Men #1 variant cover that features Jean Grey in '70s costume, which she's started wearing again too.
