With "Deadpool" in theaters and "X-Men: Apocalypse" on the horizon, Fox continues to expand its X-Men Cinematic Universe. Next up: "New Mutants." During an interview with IGN, executive producer Simon Kinberg discussed who fans might see in the upcoming film.
"Traditionally, the New Mutants have some characters that cross over from the mainline 'X-Men' movies. As we are going, I would say it's likely that you will see some familiar faces," he revealed.
However, that doesn't mean all of the characters will be so familiar. "There's a very deep bench," he added. "There's a long, long list of names, and I'll tell you some of the names on that list I don't even know. That's how deep it goes."
He also explained the intended tone of the film, saying, "That's the fun for me, working in the X-Men universe, creating these sort of standalone movies that have a different vibe to them. And 'New Mutants' has more of a YA [Young Adult] vibe to it."
No release date has yet been announced for "The New Mutants," but "X-Men: Apocalypse" -- which is directed by Bryan Singer and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Oscar Isaac and many, many more -- arrives in theaters May 27.
