New Man of Steel Trailer to Play Before The Hobbit

Fans should head to theaters to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as much for the trailers as for the actual movie. In addition to a trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness premiering before non-IMAX showings (and a nine-minute prologue showing before IMAX screenings), it turns out that Man of Steel will also have a new theatrical trailer screen before The Hobbit.

Director Zack Snyder confirmed the news through an interview with MTV. “It’s fun. I can’t wait for The Hobbit, so it will be fun to see our crazy Man of Steel trailer and then enjoy the Hobbit because that’s going to be great,” he said. “It just feels like a fun Christmas thing to do, drag the whole family out for that action.”

Snyder also talked about Michael Shannon’s performance as General Zod. Although behind-the-scenes pictures of Shannon have leaked, we’ve yet to see any official shots of him as the iconic Superman villain. Snyder teased that the reveal will be worth the wait.

“Shannon is great, he has such great enthusiasm and dedication constantly,” Snyder said. “You can imagine that you could get actors who go, ‘Oh right, it’s Zod, it’s not 100 percent serious,’ or [you can play it] slightly with a wink, there is none of that with him. His effort is to make it realized and to understand this character and what he has to go through, so you have that on one side and you have Henry, who basically is Superman, on the other side and that dynamic.”

Written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer and Christopher Nolan, Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Antje Traue as Faora, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Col. Hardy. The film opens June 14, 2013.
