New "Lord of the Rings" & "The Hobbit" Ultimate Collection Spans 30 Blu-Ray Discs

Fans of director Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies may want to block off some vacation time this October: a brand new Ultimate Edition collection that compiles both trilogies into one box set is coming your way. Called the "Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector's Edition," as it's listed on Amazon, the set boasts thirty -- yes, thirty -- Blu-Ray discs that contain extended cuts of all six movies.

In addition to "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug," "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies," "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring," "Lord of the Rings: Two Towers" and "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," all that extended goodness also comes with behind-the-scenes documentaries that were released on previous editions of the films.

But wait -- there's more! Each movie comes in its own faux-leather case, all of which sit together on a "Hobbit-style" wooden shelf. The "Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector's Edition" also includes a replica of "The Red Book of Westmarch," the book Bilbo and Frodo Baggins wrote and the inspiration for "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings." The 100-page book is filled with original sketches from the films and reproductions of watercolors done by concept artists Alan Lee and John Howe.

Though no official price has been announced, it's speculated that "Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector's Edition" will retail for as high as $800. This new Ultimate Edition is scheduled to go on sale October 4.
