New Line is teaming with Michael London's Groundswell Productions to produce the horror comedy Final Girls, Variety reports. Written as a spec script by Mark Fortin and Josh Miller, who are taking another pass now that the script has sold, the film is described as a combination of Friday the 13th and Back to the Future.
The story revolves around a woman whose actress mother recently died. Mother and daughter get reunited thanks to some dimensional shift that absorbs the girl and her friends, sending them into one of her mom's most iconic horror flicks.
Todd Strauss-Schulson, whose A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas opened Nov. 4, is signed on to direct. Considering his background is mostly in comedy, it will be interesting to see how Strauss-Schulson adapts to the blood-soaked world of horror.
