New Image From Avatar Sequel Last Airbender: Legend Of Korra

It’s been nearly eight months since Nickelodeon announced the new incarnation of its popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and in the time we’ve seen very little about Legend of Korra. Maybe the producers have been waiting for the dust to settle on M. Night Shyamalan’s Razzie-winning The Last Airbender.

Whatever the case, we finally have a new piece of Korra art, courtesy The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog. Although it’s billed as “an exclusive first look at Korra,” it’s actually the second look; a so-so shot of our heroine’s back was released back in July. So, it’s our first good look, I guess.

Premiering in November next year, the 12-episode miniseries set some 70 years after the defeat of the Fire Lord, and follows the adventures of Aang’s successor — “a passionate, rebellious and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra.” The new series follows Korra as she’s taught airbending by Ang and Katara’s son Tenzin in Republic City, a sprawling, crime-plagued metropolis threatened by a growing anti-bender revolution.

Update: A second post at Speakeasy provides a rundown of the central voice cast: Janet Varney as KORRA; Kiernan Shipka as JINORA; Daniel Dae Kim as HIROSHI SATO; David Faustino as MAKO; Seychelle Gabriel as ASAMI; Lance Henriksen as LIEUTENANT; P.J. Byrne as BOLIN; and JK Simmons as TENZIN.
