Who's that Pokémon? In a live stream dedicated to Nintendo's upcoming RPG on the Nintendo Switch Pokémon Sword and Shield, two new horse-like Pokémon galloped into view. Both bear a resemblance to Ponyta, the fire-type horse Pokémon, whose mane is replaced by dancing flames.
While there is no confirmation that the two are the Galarian versions of Ponyta, it's hard not to draw the comparison based on their look alone, with their white bodies and eye-catching manes. Instead of flame manes, however, the new Pokémon have purple and turquoise cotton candy-like hair, with puffy purple tufts surrounding the ends of their legs. Both also have a black horn with a single white stripe on their heads, similar to a unicorn. One appears to have a huge tail while another doesn't. When the Pokémon with the tail snuggles against the other, its hair begins to glow brighter and brighter before the two playfully gallop around each other, then towards the screen.
According to Polygon, Ponyta's signature cries can be heard throughout the stream, leading further into the speculation that the new Pokémon shown belong to the same horse family as Ponyta.
Other Pokémon making their way to Sword and Shield are Pikachu, Impidimp, Morellul, Shiinotic and Phantump. A page on reddit has clips showing the subtle and not-so-subtle reveals of these returning Pokémon.
Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo/ThePokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Sword and Shield is set to release on November 15, 2019. The RPGs are the first main series games in the eighth generation of the franchise and the second set of games on the Switch.
