The DC Comics crossover event Dark Nights: Death Metal recently dealt a cataclysmic twist, as the Darkest Knight channeled Crisis energy from the Dark Multiverse to become more omnipotently powerful than ever.

The villain's new, cosmic upgrade is explored in the tie-in special Dark Nights: Death Metal - Rise of the New God #1, as the Darkest Knight sets his sights on betraying Perpetua to remake the DC Multiverse in his twisted image. DC released a preview of the main story, written by James Tynion IV, penciled by Jesus Merino, inked by Vicente Cifuentes, colored by Ulises Arreola and lettered by Tom Napolitano. The preview is shared, along with the standard cover illustrated by Ian Bertram and colored by Dave Stewart, below.

  • Batman. Always. Wins. This irrevocable truth resonates to the very heart of Perpetua's battle with the Batman Who Laughs…and when her ally reveals his absolute nature, she will upend this mantra and destroy the last planet. His planet. But that's not enough…and the mother of all creation must wonder, if power lies in destruction, why would she ever stop? But that's the thing about truth…when it turns to fact, there’s no disputing its godlike reverence…and so enters the Darkest Knight. Featuring a backup story that spins out of the cliffhanger from Dark Nights: Death Metal Multiverse's End #1.

The tie-in special will also include a backup story by Bryan Hill and Vik Virella exploring the fallout from the previous one-shot Multiverse's End #1, which saw the surviving heroes from worlds destroyed by Perpetua band together.

Written by James Tynion IV and Bryan Hill and illustrated by Jesus Merino and Nik Virella, Dark Nights: Death Metal - Rise of the New God #1 goes on sale Oct. 27 from DC Comics.
