Everything is connected -- everything! -- in the latest trailer for “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” BBC America's upcoming limited series based on Douglas Adams’ humorous detective novels.

If the trailer isn't enough to satisfy you, there are also a pair of promos introducing Samuel Barnett's titular "holistic" detective and his reluctant assistant Todd, played by Elijah Wood.

Adapted by Max Landis, the four-episode debut season follows Dirk and Todd as they wind their way through one big, seemingly insane mystery, crossing unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and sometimes dangerous characters. Adams (“A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”) published his first “Dirk Gently” novel in 1987. A sequel, “The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul,” was released the following year.

A co-production of AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment, which published a comic adaptation last year, “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” also stars Hannah Marks, Jade Eshete, Mpho Koaho, Fiona Dourif, Michael Eklund, Miguel Sandoval, Dustin Milligan, Aaron Douglas, Neil Brown Jr. and Richard Schiff.

“Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” premieres Oct. 22 on BBC America.
