New Daredevil A ‘Strong Character-Driven Take’ On Matt Murdock

If you’re troubled by the improbable, if perhaps inevitable, chatter about Robert Pattinson starring in Fox’s new Daredevil, don’t be. It’s only talk, sparked by the actor’s connection to newly announced director David Slade, who helmed The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

“We are at early planning stages and have not yet discussed any cast,” Slade wrote Sunday on Twitter, where he also addressed rumors about The Wolverine. If that’s not enough to ease your mind, there’s confirmation of sorts from Pattinson, who wasn’t even aware another Daredevil was being made.

“[That] Ben Affleck movie?” he asked MTV News. “That’s weird, didn’t that only come out about three years ago?” It was more like eight years ago, but who’s counting?

With that load off our minds, we can look at what else Slade had to say about his take on the Man Without Fear: “So without breaking confidentiality, yes Daredevil, we have a great outline for a very strong character-driven take on Mr Matt Murdock. It will [bear] no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way.”

How that relates to the original Variety report, which described the new project as “a continuation of the superhero pic” that “will not contain material from the Ben Affleck-toplined version,” is anyone’s guess. Is it a reboot, or does it place a period at the end of the 2003 film and move on? But Slade’s description of “a very strong character-driven take” on Murdock certainly keeps alive hope for an adaptation of “Born Again.”
