Pulling off the cloak of mystery, it's been revealed the recently announced "Berserk" anime project is indeed a new television series that will premiere in July on Japan's WOWOW. It will then air as part of MBS's' "Animeism" programming block.

The format hadn't been specified when the new "Berserk" was first teased in December.

Titled simply "Berserk," the series is an adaptation of Kentaro Miura's long-running fantasy manga, which centers on protagonist Guts, a lone mercenary in a medieval Europe-inspired world, and antagonist Griffith, the leader of a mercenary band. "Berserk” was previously adapted as an anime series that aired from 1997 to 1998.

The new series will follow Guts in his “Black Swordsman” persona, which was explored somewhat in the manga but only briefly touched upon by the original anime.
