Babylon 5 officially has a new logo but series creator J. Michael Straczynski is still keeping mum about what the new visual means for the franchise.

Posting to his personal Twitter, Straczynski debuted the updated version of the title, which retains the futuristically sleek yet bold font of the original accompanied by the large numeral five in the background. "What's this? Why, it's a spiffy new variation on the Babylon 5 logo," the creator wrote. "It can't be for the reimagining 'cause that's on hold pending WGA issues, so what could it possibly be for? Hmm. Maybe we'll find out more one week from today." Straczynski concluded by asking fans of the sci-fi series to spread the word that something "wonderful" is coming.

The unveiling of the new logo comes just a week after Straczynski teased fans with a major announcement that is scheduled to be revealed on May 3. The acclaimed writer has yet to specify any details behind the reveal but has confirmed that while it is focused on Babylon 5, it has nothing to do with the revival/reboot show that is in development for The CW. Many fans are speculating that a high-definition remaster of the original series is on the horizon but this has yet to be confirmed.

What's Next for Babylon 5?

As for the future of Babylon 5, Straczynski has asked fans of the franchise to remain patient for updates while also clarifying that the next chapter of the franchise will be a reboot rather than a sequel series. "How do you tell the continuing story of our original Londo without the original Vir? Or G’Kar? How do you tell Sheridan’s story without Delenn? Or the story of B5 without Franklin? Garibaldi? Zack?" the creator responded when asked why a sequel was out of the question.

While the reboot may not return to the crew many fans have come to know and love, Straczynski has promised that the story will be both familiar and fresh at the same time. "If I were creating Babylon 5 today, for the first time, knowing what I now know as a writer, what would it look like?" explained the writer, when asked about how he was approaching the project. He also compared his new vision to both Westworld and Battlestar Galactica where "you take the original elements that are evergreens and put them in a blender with a ton of new, challenging ideas."

The Babylon 5 reboot does not yet have a release window but fans wanting more info on Straczynski's mystery announcement should keep their eyes on his Twitter page on May 3.
