Fox has just released a new poster for the upcoming "Alien: Covenant," one so gruesome you can almost hear the xenomorph hissing...

The pose might be classic, evoking previous face-offs between the bugs and their regular enemy, Sigourney Weaver's Lt. Ellen Ripley, but this time the aliens are facing a terrified-looking Katherine Waterston.

Whether her character, Daniels, survives to the film's final credits would seem to warrant even odds at this point, and even if she does make it that far, things won't necessarily end well. After all, even though we don't know exactly what happened to Noomi Rapace's character at the end of "Prometheus," the signs are not good.

Prospects look significantly brighter for Rapace's "Prometheus" co-star Michael Fassbender, however, whose character David will be a focus for the new film's plot.

"Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the ‘synthetic’ David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."

Directed by Ridley Scott, “Alien: Covenant,” stars Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Noomi Rapace, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby, hits theaters on May 17.
