New "Agents of SHIELD" Clip Tests May's Allegiances, Possibly Teases Spinoff

In a new clip from "Melinda," the upcoming episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) finds out that Coulson (Clark Gregg) was keeping secrets even from her -- including covert meetings with May's ex-husband Dr. Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood).

As Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) reveals Coulson's secret trips to May, it comes to light that Coulson is spending money on bunkers through shell companies, which gives credence to Gonzales' (Edward James Olmos) theory that Coulson is collecting powered people.

With an "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." spinoff reportedly in the works at ABC, could this clip -- which follows the announcement by a day -- give us a clue about what that show might be? In Jonathan Hickman and Stefano Caselli's "Secret Warriors," Fury had dozens of secret safe houses that he called "caterpillar bases" where he trained powered individuals to become S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. With Skye coming into her own just like Daisy "Quake" Johnson, it sounds an awful lot like the scene is hinting at that same premise.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." airs Tuesdays at 9 pm EST on ABC.
